Muller Reports to Cubs Spring Training for Second Season

After a solid rookie season in Boise, Idoho the former Spartan, John Muller reports to spring training in Phoenix, Arizona for his second season and first full season as a Cub minor leaguer.

On Tuesday May 8th, Senior John Muller (Mahopac, NY) signed a contract to play professionally for the Chicago Cubs Organization.

Muller started all four seasons for the Spartans playing 2nd base, shortstop, third base, and relief pitcher. He was a two-time All-East Coast Conference selection and this past week became the all-time hits leader at St. Thomas with 224 hits. During his career he drove in 103 runs and stoled 51 bases. This season he also served as the Spartan closer going 2-4 with  3 saves, striking out 24 batters in 14.2 innings. With a 90 mph fastball and a great slider, the Cubs pegged Muller as a pitching prospect. His first minor league assignment will most likely be  either Phoenix, Az. or Boise, Idaho, both locations for the Cub's rookie teams. He will report in June shortly after the MLB draft.

Muller becomes the 4th Spartan since 2002 to either sign a professional contract or be drafted. The others were RHP-Brian Flynn (St. Louis), 1B-Mike Clohessy (Independent), and OF-Mike Sharpe (NY Mets).
