STAC Picked 4th in ECC Pre-Season Poll, Diaz & Mazzello selected as Pre-Season All ECC

Harrison, NY, March 1, 2007- Dowling College, the 2006 conference tournament champion

and the University of New Haven, last season conference regular season winner, have been

picked to share the top spot in the 2007 East Coast Conference Preseason Baseball Poll of

league coaches. The Golden Lions and Chargers, who both advanced to the 2006 NCAA

Division II Baseball National Championship Tournament, each received five first place votes in

the coaches' poll. Rounding out the ECC's preseason top five are Adelphi in third place, St.

Thomas Aquinas in fourth place and Molloy in the fifth spot. Molloy senior outfielder Thomas Reo

 (E. Rockaway, NY) is the coaches' preseason selection for Player of the Year honors. Last

season, Reo earned First Team All-Region and All- Conference honors, as he blasted 12 home

runs with 43 RBIs to go along with a .348 batting average. The pre-season Pitcher of the Year

selection is junior starter Brent Lotito (Miller Place, NY) of Dowling. Lotito compiled a 7-2 record

with a 2.49 ERA in 2006. In all, for Dowling players were selected to the preseason ECC All-

Conference Team. Joining Lotito on the squad from Dowling are senior first baseman James

Healy (Bohemia, NY) senior third baseman Billy Mottram (Haverhill, MA) and junior utilityman

Kevin Reese (Ronkonkoma, NY).  New Haven placed three players on the squad with junior

Michael Moras (Orange, CT) earning the nod at catcher, sophomore Evan Okon (Bellmore, NY)

at second base and sophomore Ken Appel (Orange, CT) taking one of the three outfield

spots.   Two St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans earned preseason All-ECC accolades, junior

John Mazzello (Hyde Park, NY) at shortstop and senior Javier Diaz (Dobson, NC) at

designated hitter.  Rounding out the 2007 ECC Preseason Baseball Team are Bridgeport senior,

outfielder Joseph Misinonile (West Haven, CT) and Adelphi sophomore, pitcher Bobby

Lanigan (Staten Island, NY).   "Baseball is one of the conference's most competitive sports,"

said  Ed Manetta, ECC Commissioner. "There are excellent teams from top to bottom in our

league, and that should make for an excellent 2007 season."
