St. Thomas Aquinas Athletics Receive ECC Community Cup
The St. Thomas Aquinas Athletic Department was honored for their strong efforts in community service in last night's East Coast Conference 1st Annual Awards Dinner. STAC received the ECC Community Cup which went to the Conference Institution that dedicated the highest number of hours to community service.
The Spartans devoted 2,525 hours over the course of the 2009-2010 academic year to various community service events. These events were organized by different sports teams, the Student Activities Department and the Student Athlete Advisory Committe. St. Thomas Athletes participated in events such as the SID's walk to raise funds for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Relay for Life to raise money for Cancer Research. Teams did various Think Pink events to raise funds for breast cancer and prostrate cancer. Other community service efforts included Midnight Runs, Collecting Cell Phones for Wounded Warriors, Toys for Tots, and helping out at the Salvation Army.
The Award was accepted by Kim Vareles and Theresa Dowling, who are women's basketball players, as well as members of the SAAC.
