Spartans Take Home ECC Community Cup for 3rd Consecutive Year
The St. Thomas Aquinas College athletic department is the recipient of the 2012 Community Cup which is presented to the institution in that tallies the most number of community service and community engagement hours per student-athlete. This marks the third consecutive year they have received the award.
The Spartans outdid their previous two award winning years, breaking the 20 hour mark of community service hours per student-athlete, averaging over 22 hours during the 2011-12 academic year. From Sports Clinics to midnight runs to bake sales and food drives, the St. Thomas Aquinas student-athletes donated their time to the community that supports them.
Department-wide events like Freshman Move-in Day, the SIDS walk, Carnival Against Cancer and STAC Owns the Night, helped to rack in over 1600 hours while individual teams and student-athletes donated time at local schools and special awareness events.
The Spartans were recognized at the East Coast Conference Awards Dinner where they received the community cup as well as a $500 grant for 2012-2013.
