  • Akeem Comas Named to 2009 All-Met Second Team

    St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball player Akeem Comas was named to the 2009 All-Met Second Team. Comas led the Spartans in scoring and rebounding this year averaging 14.3 points per game and 5.2 boards per game. The senior guard finished with 1199 points and 500 rebounds for his career. The 76th Annual Met Basketball Writers Association Awards Dinner will be held this evening at the Giants Stadium Club.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team lost to Dowling in the quarterfinal round of the ECC playoffs, 79-47. The Spartans finished the year with a record of 10-17 and 8-10 in the ECC. STAC was led by senior Akeem Comas who scored thirteen points and grabbed three boards.

    Senior Akeem Comas was named to the ECC All Conference First Team. Comas led the Spartans with 14.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. Comas has scored a career high 1199 points and pulled down 500 rebounds for the Spartans. Freshman Ra'Shad James was named the 2009 East Coast Conference Co-Rookie Of The Year. James is third in scoring for the Spartans, averaging 8.2 points per game. The two-time ECC Rookie of the Week is shooting 46% from the floor while adding 2.9 boards per game.
  • Molloy College Defeats Spartans, 70-61

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team fell to the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 70-61. The Spartans received a team high sixteen points and seven rebounds from Jelani Winfield. Winfield was 6-6 from the field and added three steals. Chad Williams scored ten points and had three steals in twenty-two minutes off the bench.
  • Spartans Beat NYIT, 67-60

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team beat NYIT, 67-60, in last night's contest. Akeem Comas drained two three pointers in the final three minutes of play to break a 53-53 tie and lead STAC to a tough win on the road. Comas finished with eleven points including a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc. The Spartans have clinched the fifth place spot in the playoffs and a win at home on Saturday gives them an opportunity to move to fourth place in the ECC.

    St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball player Ra'Shad James was named the East Coast Conference Rookie Of The Week for the second consecutive week. James averaged 9.5 points and 3 assists for the week. James scored 16 points in the Spartans overtime win at Concordia. The freshman is third in scoring for the Spartans averaging 7.9 points per game and shooting 45% from the field.
  • Spartans Fall Short Against Bridgeport, 67-62

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team lost to the University of Bridgeport by a score of 67-62. Senior Akeem Comas scored sixteen points while Chris Williams added fourteen. Williams hit 3-7 from behind the arc including a deep three to bring the Spartans within three (63-60) with twenty seconds remaining in the game. Jelani Winfield added eleven points off the bench for STAC.
  • Spartans Pull Off 74-66 Victory in Overtime

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team defeated Concordia College, 74-66. The Spartans used a 13-5 run in overtime to claim the win. Freshman Ra'Shad James lead all scorers with sixteen points while Akeem Comas and Chris Williams added fourteen and thirteen points respectively. Pierre Gaspard made two free throws with four seconds remaining to tie the game at 61 and force the extra period.

    Ra'Shad James was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. James scored a career high 16 points against Adelphi connecting on 3-6 from behind the arc. James averaged 12.5 points for the week and is third in scoring for the Spartans averaging 7.8 points per game.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team defeated Mercy College 68-62 in overtime on Saturday. Senior Chris Williams hit a three with time running off the clock to tie the game and give the Spartans a chance to come away with the win. Williams finished with thirteen points (3-7 from behind the arc) and five assists. Akeem Comas led all scorers with twenty-three points shooting 10-14 from the field.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team lost to Adelphi, 71-49 in last night's matchup. Ra'Shad James scored sixteen points for the Spartans shooting 6-12 from the floor and 3-6 from behind the arc. Akeem Comas recorded eleven points and ten rebounds while Chris Williams added thirteen points and two assists.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team dropped a tough game to visiting Queens College, 80-78. Akeem Comas made a layup with seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 66 and force overtime. Comas finished with a team high twenty-five points shooting 9-13 from the field.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team lost to nationally ranked CW Post, 96-66. The Spartans were led by freshman Ra'Shad James who scored a career high seventeen points. James also grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists. Ahmed Allen continued his strong play inside scoring fifteen points shooting 6-8 from the field. Chris Williams added eleven points for the Spartans while Brian Harnischfeger dished out a season high seven assists.

Pierre Gaspard finished with a team high eleven points shooting 5-6 from the field. Chris Williams and Vincent Johnson contributed nine points each while Brian Harnischfeger finished with team high six rebounds and five assists.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team beat Dowling College, 61-56 in Saturday afternoon's contest. This was the second match-up of the two teams as the Spartans defeated the Lions by one earlier in the season. STAC was led by Chris Williams who scored fourteen points shooting 2-3 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the line. Williams was 4-6 from the field while adding two assists and two steals. Ahmed Allen added twelve points and five rebounds. Both Williams and Allen hit key free throws to hold off Dowling down the stretch.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team defeated the Bears of NYIT 62-58 in Saturday afternoon's contest. The Spartans were lead by senior Akeem Comas who scored seventeen points and finished with a game high four blocks. Ahmed Allen scored fourteen points and pulled down seven rebounds while Jamie Balnchard chipped in eleven points. Blanchard and Allen hit key free throws in the final minutes of play to keep the Spartans ahead.
  • STAC Hosts Take a Kid to the Game Day

    On Saturday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College athletic department hosted its annual Take a Kid to the Game Day. Children from the local community had the opportunity to watch the Spartans compete against the Concordia College Clippers in two action-packed basketball games. The children were invited to experience the collegiate game day atmosphere firsthand. They filled the stands providing encouragement for the athletes while some even had the opportunity to show their skills in numerous half time competitions.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team dropped a 75-63 decision to the Purple Knights of Bridgeport. The Spartans were led by Jamie Blanchard's twenty points on 4-8 from the field and 12-12 from the free throw line. Chris Williams added twelve points and five assists for the Spartans.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team dropped a 60-44 game to visiting Concordia College in Saturday afternoon's game. Freshman Ra'Shad James led STAC with thirteen points and three rebounds. Linton Brown added ten points for STAC on 5-6 shooting from the field.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team beat Mercy College 68-56 in last nights outing. The Spartans maintained a double digit lead for most of the second half. Akeem Comas had fifteen points and six rebounds while Vincent Johnson added fourteen points and five boards. After both squads exchanged baskets in the early minutes, the Spartans took over the game on a traditional three point play by Terrance Portis and never looked back. STAC was up by as many as twenty in the first half behind Johnson's ten points.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team dropped an 84-80 decision on the road against Felician College on Tuesday evening. The Spartans were led by senior Akeem Comas with twenty five points and seven rebounds. Seniors Jelani Winfield and Chris Williams added fourteen points apiece.

    Senior Ahmed Allen scored two free throws in the final seconds of play to lift the Spartans over Queens, 63-62, in Saturday afternoon's game. STAC moves to 2-1 in conference play and 4-5 overall. The Spartans were led by seniors Chris Williams and Akeem Comas who scored seventeen and fifteen points respectively. Comas also pulled down a game high ten rebounds.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team fell to CW Post 87-57 on Saturday. The Spartan's Ahmed Allen had sixteen points and seven rebounds including 8-9 from the free throw line. Vincent Johnson and Tony Mills added nine and seven points for the Spartans. Senior Akeem Comas was held to seven points on 3-6 shooting after picking up three fouls early in the game.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team dropped it's home opener 52-47 to Philadelphia University last evening. Senior Akeem Comas led the Spartans with fourteen points and five rebounds. Poor shooting plagued the Spartans as they went 1-10 from behind the arc and 6-14 from the free throw line. Despite the low scoring output, the Spartans did receive at least two or more points from twelve different players.

Comas averaged seventeen points and five rebounds on the week and is leading the Spartans in both categories. On Saturday, Comas hit a three pointer at the buzzer to send their game into overtime against Wilmington University allowing the Spartans to claim the victory.

Senior Akeem Comas hit a long three tying the game at the buzzer and sending the Spartans into their first overtime game of the season. Comas led the Spartans with 16 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Vincent Johnson added 12 points off the bench knocking down 2-3 from behind the arc. Robert Payne chipped in with nine points, including the final basket of the game with four seconds remaining.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team held on for a 70-66 victory against the Lightning of Goldey Beacom in the opening round of the Wilmington University Classic. The Spartans had four players score in double figures led by seniors Akeem Comas who notched seventeen points while grabbing five rebounds. Senior Terrance Portis added ten points in thirteen minutes on 4-5 shooting from the field.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team lost to Nyack College 57-55 in front of a rowdy crowd that packed the gym at the Bowman Center. STAC senior forward Akeem Comas continued to lead the Spartans with a game-high 18 points on 7-12 from the field and 3-4 from behind the arc. Senior forwards Ahmed Allen and Pierre Gaspard added 11 and 10 points respectively.
