Ithaca, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Sprint Football team snapped its five-game losing streak, holding on for an 18-17 victory over Cornell University on Friday evening at Schoellkopf Field.
STAC moves to 2-5 overall and evens its CSFL North record at 2-2, while Cornell falls to 0-7 and 0-4.
STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Damari Hamilton led the Spartans' offense with 21 rushing attempts totaling 130 yards and a score. His run went for 54 yards.
- Aaron Cruz caught just one pass for 76 yards, but it also resulted in a touchdown for the maroon and gold.
- Starting quarterback Tynez Harp completed 6 of 15 passes, for 161 yards, while throwing for a touchdown.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Brandon Jimenez recorded 14 tackles (11 solo, 3 assist), while Ethan Hence (5 solo, 2 assist) and Luigi Biondolillo (5 solo, 2 assist) made seven stops apiece.
- Biondolillo and teammate Ibrahim Conteh picked off Big Red QB Kyle Melkonian, with Conteh returning his interception 24 yards for a touchdown.
- Meanwhile, Daniel Cruz III and Damian Aviles forced a Cornell fumble apiece, as the defense corps also broke up four passes.
- Kicker Andrew Stosko went 0-for-1 on both field goal and extra point attempts, with both blocked by Cornell.
