STAC Cross Country Teams, Athletes Earn 2021 USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

On Thursday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their annual Division II Cross Country All-Academic teams and athletes for 2021. The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were named recipients of this distinguished honor as a result of their outstanding work on both the race course and in the classroom.

In total, 98 different men's programs and 111 women's programs were named to the All-Academic Teams for their efforts during the 2021 season, with the STAC Men compiling a team GPA of 3.304 and the women's squad recording a 3.538 team GPA.

Additionally, Spartans Andrew Drescher (So., Duanesburg, N.Y.), Ciara Durcan (Fr./Orangeburg, N.Y.), Abagaile Kimbrell (Gr./Monroe, N.Y.), Christina Maretzo (Gr./Tuxedo, N.Y.) and Skylar Moreno (Sr./Congers, N.Y.) were named All-Academic Athletes. All five student-athletes are education majors at the college.

Overall, there were 275 men from 98 different institutions and 357 women from 104 different institutions who were named All-Academic Athletes for their efforts during the 2021 season.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, while student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
