Women's Cross Country Picked 2nd in ECC, 9th in Region

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Cross Country team has been chosen to finish 2nd in the East Coast Conference for the 2018 season. The USTFCCCA has ranked them #9 in their preseason poll.  The Spartans finished the 2018 season in 2nd place in the ECC and ranked 7th by the USTFCCCA.  The graduation of standout Kristen Borriello leaves tough shoes to fill for the youg team, but sophomore Aida Torpey has already laid the groundwork to step up.  An All-Region and All-Conference runner last season, Torpey was named the East Coast Conference Preseason Runner of the Year.  Classmate Rebecca MacLeod is also expected to make major contributions.  She has inproved each season and has been a mainstay in a scoring position.  Sophomore Abagaile Kimbrell battled injuries in her freshman campaign, but has returned to the team in excellent shape and is ready to take on a leading role.  This team is very young, but has a lot of potential.  Junior redshirt Laura Herbes will make her debut after sitting out last season.  Her hard working mentaity and experience will be an asset to the program.  The Spartans have also added three freshman to the mix and combined with the other four on the Spartan roster add depth.  "I am very excited abut the upcoming season," commented Head Coach Nicole Ryan.  "We have so many people who can contribute and our scorers can change on a regular basis.  I think this sqaud will challenge each other everyday and the competition within will help us to grow as a team."

The Spartans open the season at the National Catholic Invitational at the University of Ntre Dame on September 14th.
