After two weeks of preseason training the Spartans hit the trails of the challenging Bronx course. The women set the stage in the first race of the day with the top five finishing in a span less than 60 sixty seconds. Torpey finished in 7th place clocking her first collegiate time of 21:28. Senior Meaghan Ventarola was right behind her crossing the line in 21:41. Freshman Rebecca MacLeod stepped into the third scoring spot with a 10th place finish in 22:05. Senior Patricia Nersten (22:15) and junior Kara Santa Teresa (22:32) secured the second place finish for the team out of the ten competing. Senior Katie O'Grady and freshman Grace Carter had strong outings for the Spartans finishing in 23:12 and 23:53.
In his collegiate debut, Gay provided a nice spark for the Spartans with his 14th place finish in 27:53. Senior Jamer Linares stepped in where he left off last year as a team leader coming through the finish at 28:11. The next two finishers for the team Robert Guidicipietro and Austin Labbe were also freshmen in their first collegiate race. They clocked times of 28:34 and 30:07. Senior Ryan Gasser rounded out the scorers for the Spartans with a time of 30:12. Freshman Kyle Kondracki and junior Christian Diaz helped to solidify the team's 3rd place finish out of 11.
The Spartans will host the 5K Spartan Alumni run on Saturday at Tallman Mountain State Park in Sparkill, NY. They will return to collegiate competition at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.
