New Haven, Conn. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team made the trip up Interstate 95 on Saturday afternoon for a season-opening tri-match with Southern Connecticut State University and Jefferson University at Pelz Gymnasium.

In a hotly contested pair of matches, STAC dropped a 3-0 decision to the host Owls and a 3-2, five-set thriller to the Rams to fall to 0-2 on the year.

• As a team, So. Connecticut State recorded 42 kills compared to St. Thomas Aquinas' 26. The Owls also had 5 blocks and 37 assists, while the Spartans tallied 2 blocks and 24 assists.
• So. Conn outhit STAC by a .209 to .116 margin for the match.
• Natassia Romanoff (Haverstraw, N.Y.) paced the Spartans offense with a team-high 11 kills. She also registered a serve assist, four digs and a block assist.
• Anna Gazzerro (Padova, Italy) tallied a match-high 19 serve assists (6.33 assists/set). Gazzerro also accumulated a kill, a service ace and nine digs for the maroon and gold.
• Sophomore transfer Laura Rojas Gomez (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) picked up three kills, six digs and a solo block.
• Freshman Adriana Zarceno (Oviedo Asturias, Spain) tallied four kills and six digs in the first match of the afternoon.
• Kamila Zoe Rosa (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) put together a four kill, one serve assist, and two dig effort against the Owls.

• As a team, Jefferson recorded 44 kills compared to St. Thomas Aquinas' 38. The Rams also had 7 blocks and 44 assists, while the Spartans tallied 3 blocks and 37 assists.
• STAC outhit Jefferson by a .169 to .100 margin for the match.
• Chloe Weiting (Bakersfield, Calif.) paced the Spartans offense with a team-high 10 kills. She also registered three serve assists, a service ace and 10 digs.
• Anna Gazzerro tallied a match-high 28 serve assists (5.60 assists/set). Gazzerro also accumulated a kill and seven digs for the maroon and gold.
• Laura Rojas Gomez picked up eight kills, seven digs and two solo blocks in her second match of the day.
• Christianna Roberts (Hesperia, Calif.) racked up three kills, two digs and a solo block.
• Junior transfer Boglarka Kiss (Szeged, Hungary) contributed four serve assists, two service aces and a match-high 13 digs.
• Natassia Romanoff put together an eight kill, one serve assist and four dig effort against the Rams.
