STAC Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with Queens

Flushing, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team battled to its second-straight 1-1 draw, this one with Queens College, on Saturday afternoon at the QC Varsity Soccer Field.

STAC moves to 0-8-2 overall and 0-3-1 in ECC play, while Queens goes to 2-6-3 and 1-2-1.

The Spartans received first half scoring from Amelia Hammond, while goalkeeper Catalena Robson (T, 0-4-1) got the start in goal and turned aside seven of eight shots propelled her way.

Meanwhile, Ava Lekanides tallied a goal for the Knights late in the second half, as keeper Samantha Hines-Hirsch (T, 2-6-3) stopped two of three shots sent in her direction.

HOW IT HAPPENED

41st Minute: A free kick by Audrey Fenninger was sent into the middle of the box, finding teammate Amelia Hammond for the redirection past Samantha Hines-Hirsch to give STAC the 1-0 lead.

83rd Minute: An Avery Shreffler corner kick made its way into the box, and was headed into the back of the onion bag by Ava Lekanides to knot the score up at 1-1 with seven minutes left to play in the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Queens outshot St. Thomas Aquinas 14-5, with the Knights putting the ball on frame eight times and the Spartans reaching the goal on three occasions.
  • Queens earned a slim 4-2 advantage on corner kicks over STAC.
  • Claudia Vincent registered a team-high two shots, with one going on goal.
  • The teams were whistled for 24 total fouls.
