Hammond's Late Goal Propels STAC Women's Soccer to 2-1 Victory Over D'Youville

Buffalo, N.Y. - Amelia Hammond's game-winning goal in the 88th minute sent the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over D'Youville University on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field in Western New York.

STAC picks up its first win of the 2025 season and moves to 1-8-3 overall and 1-3-1 in ECC play, while D'Youville slips to 2-8-2 and 1-3-0.

Danica Brill tallied the lone goal for the host Saints, as goalkeeper Alegra Black (L, 2-6-1) stopped 4 of 6 shots faced for D'Youville.

Meanwhile, Sarai Rodriguez and the aforementioned Hammond scored a goal apiece for the Spartans. Keeper Catalena Robson (W, 1-4-1) picked up her first win of the year for St. Thomas Aquinas by turning aside 6 of 7 shots fired her way.

How it Happened

20th Minute: A failed clear by Catalena Robson allowed Danica Brill to corral the ball and fire a shot into the empty net to give D'Youville a 1-0 advantage.

29th Minute: An offensive rush by the Spartans gave Sophie Stanley the chance to chip a through ball to the front of the net for the deflection by Sarai Rodriguez past Alegra Black to tie the match at 1-1.

88th Minute: A late push by STAC saw Amelia Hammond and Kaitlyn Maguire dance around several Saints defenders on a give and go. Hammond sent the ball to her left, finding Maguire and then received a return pass inside the box. Hammond then dribbled her way toward the net before releasing a soft shot past Black at the left post to give the maroon and gold the late 2-1 lead.
