The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to New York Institute of Technology, 1-0, in an East Coast Conference contest at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans fall to 5-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play, while NYIT improves to 8-3, 4-1.
NYIT threatened early but STAC goalkeeper Courtney Dumain stood tall until Natalia Reynisdottir converted from in close at 38:39. Hannah Franco corralled the ball in close to Dumain's right and sent a nice touch to Reynisdottir, whose second of the season stood up as the lone tally.
St. Thomas Aquinas had a golden opportunity in the second half when Bears player Jess Hawley was sent off on a red card at 63:30. Despite having an extra player for over 27 minutes, the Lady Spartans were only able to muster one second-half shot and were frustrated by NYIT's ball possession. The visitors held a 14-9 advantage in shots on the afternoon, with Dumain turning aside eight shots in taking the tough loss.
The Lady Spartans will be back in familiar surroundings on Wednesday, October 10, hosting Holy Family University for a non-conference tilt starting at 3:00 pm at Spartan Field. They return to conference action when Molloy pays a visit for a 2:30 start on Saturday, October 13.
