The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Kean University, 15-12 on Wednesday night. STAC honored their two seniors; Anne Buttafuoco and Sara Schmidt in a pre-game ceremony. Buttafuoco finished her final home game in style scoring five goals while Schmidt played a hard fought game for STAC, including some key defensive saves. Margaret Sharp also added 5 goals and Geneveve Stickney had 3 goals. Stephanie Nelson had 11 saves in the win.
Johannah Mitchell scored a goal at the 13:34 mark, giving the Lady Spartans their largest lead of the first half, 6-2. Kean outscored STAC 4-2 to close the half, but the Lady Spartans remained in control with an 8-6 lead at the break.
Kean opened the second half with a quick goal from, Lyndsey Cannon, to come within one, 8-7. STAC used a 4-0 run over the course of five minutes, late in the second half to take a 15-9 lead and keep control of the game. Alannah McCallister added a goal in that stretch.
STAC is now 8-7 and will play their final game on the road at Molloy on Saturday.
