Double-Figure Performances Power Spartans Past Bloomfield in Double Overtime

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team closed out 2025 with a thrilling 88-85 double overtime victory over Bloomfield College of Montclair State University on Wednesday afternoon at Aquinas Hall Gym.

STAC moves to 3-10 on the season, while Bloomfield slips to 7-4.

Bailey Chapman posted a team-high 27 points, along with 17 rebounds, while Delaney Finnegan (21 points), Toni Schuetze (16 points) and Cassidy Mahaney (11 points) also scored in double digits. Meanwhile, Nia Mallette led all scorers with 34 points for the visiting Bears.

St. Thomas Aquinas shot 39.0 percent from the field (32-82), while Bloomfield shot 32.2 percent (28-87) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest. 
  • Iyana Morel led the maroon and gold with five assists on the day.
  • Bailey Chapman hit 9 of her 21 field goal attempts, with three shots hitting the nets from long range. She also made 6-of-7 free throws. Meanwhile, Delaney Finnegan went 9-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
  • Bloomfield out-rebounded STAC by a narrow 58-57 margin, with Chapman also grabbing a game-high 17 boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up seven steals, with the Bears turning the ball over on 18 separate occasions.
  • The game featured 12 ties and 15 lead changes.
  • STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under nine and a half minutes to play in the second stanza, when Spartans led by 11 points, 18-7, on a Delaney Finnegan jump shot.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas held a 29-26 advantage going into the halftime locker room and shot 32.4 percent (12-37) from the field.
  • Delaney Finnegan led all scorers with 13 first half points for the Spartans, while shooting both 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the floor, 50.0 percent (1-for-2) from three and 100.0 percent (2-of-2) from the free-throw line.
  • STAC's best shooting quarter came in the second overtime, with the maroon and gold hitting 3 of its 6 total shots for a 50.0 field goal percentage and all four of its free throws for a 100.0 percent rating.

BLOOMFIELD NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Seven Bears logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Nia Mallette led Bloomfield with 34 points, while teammates Anisha Able (18 points) and Bianca Ellis (17 points) also scored in double figures.
  • Mia Martinez led Bloomfield with ten assists on the afternoon.
  • Mallette went 12-for-26 from the floor and 7-for-9 from the foul line, with Able hitting 7 of her 17 field goal attempts and 4-of-6 free throws.
  • Anisha Able also grabbed a team-high 14 boards for the Bears. Mia Martinez and Nia Mallette also racked up 11 rebounds apiece.
  • Bloomfield picked up ten steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 21 separate occasions.
  • The Bears earned advantages in five key team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points off Turnovers (22-17), Second Chance Points (17-10), Points in the Paint (36-34), Fastbreak Points (4-3) and Bench Points (40-22).
  • Bloomfield's largest lead of the game came with just over 90 seconds to play in the third stanza, when Bears led by four points, 45-41, on pair of Nia Mallette free throws.
  • Bianca Ellis led all Bears' scorers with 11 first half points, while shooting 33.3 percent (4-for-12) from the floor and 33.3 percent (3-for-9) from three.
  • Bloomfield's best shooting quarter came in the fourth frame, with the Bears hitting 8 of its 19 total shots for a 42.1 field goal percentage, with three going in from long range for a 33.3 percent clip, along with a free throw for a 50.0 percent rating.
