Rochester, N.Y. - Behind four double-figure scorers and two double-doubles, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team beat Roberts Wesleyan University, 68-61, on Friday evening at the Voller Athletic Center in Western New York.
STAC moves to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in ECC action, while Roberts Wesleyan drops to 3-8 and 0-3.
Toni Schuetze posted a team-high 17 points for the Spartans, while teammates Jona Kabashi (15 points and 11 rebounds), Bailey Chapman (13 points and 13 rebounds) and Abby Jacoby (12 points). Meanwhile, Erin Frazier led the host Redhawks with a game-high 19 points.
St. Thomas Aquinas shot 33.3 percent (23-69) from the field, while Roberts Wesleyan shot 39.7 percent (23-58) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seven Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest.
- Abby Jacoby and Bailey Chapman led the maroon and gold with four assists apiece on the night.
- Toni Schuetze hit 5 of her 14 field goal attempts, with four hitting the nets from long range. She also made 3-of-4 free throws. Meanwhile, Jona Kabashi went 7-of-15 from the floor and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
- STAC out-rebounded Roberts Wesleyan by a 50-39 margin, with Bailey Chapman grabbing a game-high 13 boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas picked up four steals, with the Redhawks turning the ball over on 16 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned one advantage in the team statistical categories over Roberts Wesleyan: Second Chance Points (15-8).
- The game featured two ties and two lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just over seven and a half minutes to play in the third stanza, when the Spartans led by 16 points, 48-32, on a Toni Schuetze three-point jump shot.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led Roberts Wesleyan 41-32 going into the halftime locker room, and shot 48.4 percent (16-33) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-13) from long range and 83.3 percent (5-6) from the foul line.
- Jona Kabashi led all scorers with 12 first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the floor.
- STAC's best shooting quarter came in the second frame, with the maroon and gold hitting 11 of its 15 total shots for a 73.3 field goal percentage, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc for a 60.0 percent rating and 3-of-4 free throws for a 75.0 percent clip.
ROBERTS WESLEYAN NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seven Redhawks logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Erin Frazier led Roberts Wesleyan's offense with 19 points, while teammate Jada Mushat (15 points) also scored in double digits.
- Meaghan Doherty led Roberts Wesleyan with six assists on the evening.
- Frazier went 5-for-14 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the foul line, with Mushat hitting 6-of-13 field goal attempts and 1-of-2 foul shots.
- Erin Frazier also grabbed a team-high 11 boards for the Redhawks.
- Roberts Wesleyan picked up nine steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 15 separate occasions.
- The Redhawks earned advantages in four team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points off Turnovers (15-11), Points in the Paint (30-20), Fastbreak Points (6-0) and Bench Points (24-19).
- Roberts Wesleyan had its largest lead of the game (11 points) with just over 90 seconds to play in the first quarter, 18-7, on an Erin Frazier free throw.
- Erin Frazier led all Redhawks' scorers at the half with 11 points, while shooting 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from the floor, 66.7 percent (2-for-3) from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent (1-of-2) from the foul line.
- Roberts Wesleyan's best shooting quarter came in the opening frame, with the Redhawks shooting 50.0 percent from both the field (7-14) and from downtown (3-6).
