STAC Women's Basketball Downed By American International, 75-64

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team wrapped up its weekend hosting duties on Saturday afternoon, falling to American International College 75-64 in the 2024 STAC Challenge at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.

STAC slips to 1-1 on the season, while AIC improves to 2-0.

Syrita Faraj posted her second-straight double-double, with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the maroon and gold, while teammate Bailey Chapman recorded a team-high 19 points. Delaney Finnegan also added to the totals with 10 points.

The Spartans shot 33.3 percent from the field (21-63), while the visiting Yellow Jackets shot 43.3 percent (26-60) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Abby Jacoby led the maroon and gold with four assists on the afternoon.
  • Bailey Chapman made 6 of her 12 field goal attempts, with three shots sailing through the nets from long range. Syrita Faraj went 5-of-17 from the field.
  • American International out-rebounded STAC by a slim 37-36 margin, with Syrita Faraj grabbing 13 boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up four steals, with the Yellow Jackets turning the ball over on 11 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in two team statistical categories over American International: Second Chance Points (14-6) and Bench Points (20-15).
  • The game featured two ties and four lead changes.
  • STAC trailed AIC at the half, 41-29.
  • Syrita Faraj paced the Spartans offense in the first half with eight points.

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Yellow Jackets logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Chelsea Reeves led all scorers with 22 points for American International, while teammates Ruzgar Christina Boyle (19 points) and Rhaymi Porter (10 points) also scored in double digits.
  • Reeves and Boyle also led AIC with three assists apiece on the afternoon.
  • Boyle went 7-for-19 from the floor and 5-of-13 from three, with Reeves hitting 8 of her 15 field goal attempts.
  • Rhaymi Porter grabbed a game-high 16 boards for the Yellow Jackets.
  • American International picked up nine steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 14 separate occasions.
  • The Yellow Jackets earned advantages in two team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points Off Turnovers (17-14), and Points in the Paint (34-24).
  • AIC had its largest lead of the game (20 points) with just over four minutes to play in the fourth quarter, 72-52, on an Eden Monka layup.
  • Chelsea Reeves led all scorers at the half with 12 points on 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) shooting from the field.
  • American International's best shooting quarter came in the opening stanza, with the Yellow Jackets shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from beyond the arc.
