Alexa Huertas and Sarah Ericson Earn ECC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball players Alexa Huertas and Sarah Ericson were named the East Coast Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively on Monday, following the Spartans 2-0 week on the hardwood, with victories over Queens College (69-46) and Molloy University (71-48) last week.

Huertas (Haverstraw, N.Y.) averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in two contests last week. The senior guard recorded 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals against the Knights, before posting an 11-point, four-rebound, one-assist, one-steal effort at the Lions.

Meanwhile, Ericson (Norwich, Conn.) led the Spartans on the defensive end of the floor, compiling 30 rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots over two games last week. The sophomore guard posted 19 rebounds, one steal, and one block against Queens, then picked up 11 rebounds, two steals, and a block at Molloy, She also recorded seven and 14-point games against her opponents.

STAC (20-7) has earned a bye into the semifinal round of the ECC Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be held at Lumsden Gymnasium (Daemen University) in Amherst, N.Y. on March 4. #2 STAC will face the winner of #3 Mercy and #6 Queens (Opening Round - Wednesday 3/1 - 7:00 p.m.) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
