St. Thomas Aquinas College's Emmanuel Mena Jimenez and Yulessa Johnson were named the East Coast Conference Men's Outdoor Field and Women's Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week respectively on Tuesday, following the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet last week.
Mena Jimenez (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) won two events at ESU's All-American Meet, taking individual victories in the discus field of nine with a throw of 55.63m (182' 6") and the hammer throw field of 11 with a toss of 63.63m (208' 9”). Both marks are tops within the ECC and continue to set NCAA Division II Provisional standards. The hammer throw also tops the East Region while the discus ranks second. The STAC graduate student also placed third in the shot put field of eight with a hurl of 15.37m (50' 5.25").
Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the 200m in a field of 16 with a time of 26.15 and placed second in a field of 12 in the 100m in a time of 12.66 at the East Stroudsburg All-American Meet last Friday. The STAC freshman sprinter currently ranks No. 2 in the 100m and No. 4 in the 200m for the ECC.
Select STAC Track & Field athletes have been invited to compete at the prestigious Penn Relays on April 24-26 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
