This past weekend St. Thomas Aquinas College track stars Saint Jacob Diodonet and Rickssen Opont competed in a last chance qualifier at the University of Mount Olive located in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Saint Jacob Diodonet ran a 47.19 in the 400 where he hit the 18th fastest time in the country in the 400 and a top 15 time for those who were declared for the event at Division II Nationals being hosted next Thursday-Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Diodonet also ran the 200 with a new personal best and school record in a time of 21.26. Opont moved up his national rank in the shot put with a throw of 16.74 meters which is a new school record and personal best. Despite making a significant jump in his ranking, Opont did not qualify for the DII Nationals.
The USTFCCCA East Region awards also came out this week, where Diodonet was All-Region in 100, 200 and 400. Opont was All-Region in the Shot Put and the Discus.
