St. Thomas Aquinas College's St. Jacob Diodonet and Rickssen Opont were named the East Coast Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week respectively on Monday, after the Spartans competed at both the FastTrack National Invitational on Friday and the St. Joseph's College Invitational on Sunday.
On the track, Diodonet took a third place finish in the 200 Meter Dash (21.75) and a ninth place finish in 400 Meter Dash (48.93) at the National FastTrack Invitational. The junior sprinter from West Milford, NJ then finished first in both the 200 Meter Dash (22.24) and 400 Meter Dash (48.88), before recording a fifth place finish in the Long Jump (6.53 meters/21' 5.25") at the St. Joseph's College Invitational.
In the field events, Opont finished fifth in the Shot Put (15.36 meters/50' 4.75") at the National FastTrack Invitational. The sophomore thrower from Nyack, NY then finished first in the Shot Put (15.42 meters/50' 7.25") and seventh in the Weight Throw (13.86 meters/45' 5.75") at the St. Joseph's College Invitational.
The Spartans will now prepare for the East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which take place on Friday, February 23rd at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
