The Spartan Track & Field Team competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Virginia Commonwealth University Invite in Richmond, Virginia. The men's 4x100 relay team of Rich Ricca, Mike Abelard, Frankie Colon, and George Erazo opened up the season with a new school record in a time of 42.82 finishing in 6th place.
Junior Erazo won the 400m at the meet with a time of 48.49 as
well as taking 7th in the 200m (22.65) and 8th in the 100m
(11.18). Colon took 7th overall in the 400m in a time of
51.06. Garvenchy Nicolas finished the 1500m in a time of
4:05.97 taking 10th overall. Mike Galonski took 4th in the 3000
meter steeplechase in a time of 10:08.07. The men finished
9th overall in the competition against some of the top teams in
NCAA Division I and Division II.
On the women's side junior Keeley Bateman ran a 5:06.58 placing
15th overall in the 1500m. Freshman Meagan Jaskot ran 19:21.19 in
the 5000 meters and finished 13th overall in the event.
The Spartan Track & Field Team will return to action on Staurday at the Monouth Season Opener.
