Senior Chelsea Klinger and Junior Mike Abelard have been named to the USTFCCCA NCAA DII All-East Region Team. Klinger is the first Indoor All-Region recipient for the Lady Spartans. Abelard is a repeat winner after receiving the award in both the indoor and outdoor seasons last year.
Klinger was awarded for her performance in the pentathalon. In her first attempt in the event, she recorded a 1,892 which was good for 5th place in the East. Klinger earned the score at the CTC Championship on February 11th. Abelard received the honor for clocking a time of 7.01 in the 60 meter dash which ranked him 5th in the region. He hit this time at the Yale Season Opener on December 3rd.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) uses the following qualifications when choosing All-Region honorees. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2012 indoor season. A total of 1,012 athletes receive 1,476 USTFCCCA All-Region nods. The USTFCCCA regions match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.
