Spartans Unleash Hit Barrage In Twin Bill Sweep of Georgian Court

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team opened the home portion of their schedule on Friday with a bang, unleashing 20 total hits including a double, two triples and three home runs en route to a twin bill sweep of Georgian Court University at Spartan Field. STAC scored 9-1 and 5-0 decisions over the visiting Lions to push their record to 6-10 on the season.

In the opener, Sofia Marella (2-5), sent a pair of homers over the right-center field and left field fences, while driving in five runs and scoring twice as Maristella Coira's (2-2) speedy triple and two runs and sister Adriana Coira's (2-2) double with a run scored led the maroon and gold hit barrage in game one. Trinadey Santiago (1-2) added a home run of her own, along with 2 RBI and a run scored to round out the long ball count.

Sarah Clancy (W, 3-5) was outstanding in the circle for STAC, allowing just a single run on four hits over five innings of work. She also issued no walks and fanned four Lions to pick up her third win of the year.

The host Spartans were able to produce more of the same in game two, with Adriana Coira going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run, Eliana Raposo picking up two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and a run scored and Trinadey Santiago putting the ball in play twice in three tries.

Madison Puppolo (W, 3-3) evened her early season record on the strength of seven strong innings on the bump. The senior righty kept Georgian Court off of the scoreboard, while giving up seven hits and a walk. She also sent down two hitters via strikeout.

STAC returns to action on Saturday (March 15) against Assumption University at Spartan Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the second game to follow around 3:00 p.m.
