Carissa Della Vecchia & Abbie Landrum Earn NFCA Division II All-East Region Honors

Sparkill, N.Y. - A pair of St. Thomas Aquinas College softball pitchers have earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-East Region selections, as Carissa Della Vecchia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and Abbie Landrum (Buena Park, Calif.) received the distinction on Wednesday.

Della Vecchia’s pitching brilliance, earned her the ECC Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Conference accolades, and has placed her among the leaders nationally among approximately 600 pitchers in the NCAA Division II circuit. Currently, she is eighth in the nation in strikeouts-per seven innings (9.8), 14th in all of Division II in total strikeouts (214) and 20th nationally with seven shutouts. She has compiled a record of 19-3 with an earned run average of 1.46 (26th in D2).

Landrum, the ECC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference pick, delivered for the Spartans as a hitter and pitcher. At the plate, she leads the team in batting average (.321), on-base percentage (.375) and doubles (11) while hitting in the middle of the batting order. She has compiled an impressive 1.96 earned run average in the circle on the way to a 10-9 record. In 136 innings, she has walked only 25 batters.
