St. Thomas Aquinas College's Carissa Della Vecchia has been named the East Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, on Monday, following the Spartans' 4-2 week on the diamond. The honor is Della Vecchia's second in as many weeks, to go along with her Pitcher of the Week accolades from March 28.
Della Vecchia was a standout both as a hitter and pitcher last week. At the plate, Della Vecchia hit .333 (7-for-21) with three doubles, a home run, four walks, four runs, and three RBI. In the circle, Della Vecchia posted a 3-0 record, including ECC wins over Mercy College and D'Youville University. The senior lefty registered 35 strikeouts in 21 innings while posting an impressive earned run average of 0.33. She recorded shutout wins over Mercy and Post University.
STAC next meets Molloy College on Tuesday (April 12) in an ECC doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m. in Rockville Center.
