The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Nyack College, 3-1 and 11-1 on Thursday afternoon. Nikolette Nevola hit a solo homer run in the 6th to give STAC the lead in game one. Nevola went 4-for-5 for the day with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Julie Sosnicki and Kim Nowak each picked up a win on the mound.
Game one was tied 1 all going into the 6th when Nevola stepped up and hit a homerun to put the Spartans ahead. Erin MCCarthy hit an RBI single scoring Samantha McDonald who also singled to give STAC the 3-1 win. Nevola went 3-for-3 for the game while McCarthy was 3-for-4 and McDonald went 3-for-2.
In the second game of the day the Spartans used a 9-run 1st inning putting the Warriors out of reach. McDonald lead off with a double and later scored from an RBI single from Malloy. The inning was highlighted by a bases loaded double from Kim Nowak. The Spartans scored two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd as STAC had 8 hits on 18 at bats. McDonald, Malloy and Nowak all went 2-for-2 and combined for 8 RBI.
The Spartans will play at Molloy on Saturday afternoon.
