Men's Tennis Lands 6-1 Road Win at UDC

Washington, D.C. - Playing the first of two East Coast Conference matches in an eight-day span against the University of the District of Columbia, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team scored a 6-1 victory over the host Firebirds on Friday at the Montgomery TennisPlex.

STAC improves to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in ECC action, while UDC drops to 6-8 and 3-2.

Doubles play saw the Spartans take the first two bouts to clinch the all-important first team point. No. 2 Don Vinz Lominoque & Nagamitsu Kuroda defeated Elouan Queguiner & Sebastiano Palma, 6-0 followed by No. 3 Ondrej Sramek & Erik Victor Tauson beating Oskar Karos & Filippo Vatteroni, 6-2. The No. 1 pair of Louis Mangeon & Louka Queguiner took down Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg 7-6 (7-5) to prevent a clean sweep of matches by STAC.

When the sides got to singles competition, St. Thomas Aquinas moved quickly to end the match on the strength of four straight victories. No. 5 Ondrej Sramek took down Sebastiano Palma 6-1, 6-2 to continue the string of triumphs for the maroon and gold, but No. 2 Louka Queguiner's three set win (5-7, 6-2, 6-4) over Lorenzo Meschini broke the shutout for the Firebirds. THE ROCKHILL REPORT

"We knew that UDC would give us a big effort so I am pleased with the result," said Head Coach Dan Rockhill.

"We played strong doubles, especially at the second and third positions," stated Rockhill. "Mitsu and Viny really had it going today and stuck to what works. When they do the simple things well, they are difficult to beat. Ondrej, our MIP, was a steamroller. He basically took the racquet out of his opponent's hand."

"This team is coming together at a good time," commented Rockhill. "They seem to trust each other and coming to work every day."
