Nine Spartans Receive ECC Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors, Graham Brown Named Coach of the Year

St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer players Benjamin Lidh, Juan Pablo Cedeno Varea, Jan Forsterling Beltran, Jorge Umana, Tristen Greenidge, Ryan Collins, Cole Allen, Asier Vegas and Anthony Bolivar Sanchez were each named as ECC All-Conference selections on Friday afternoon. Cedeno Varea and Bolivar Sanchez earned First Team honors, while Benjamin Lidh, Jorge Umana, Cole Allen and Asier Vegas received Second Team accolades, and Jan Forsterling Beltran, Ryan Collins and Tristan Greenidge garnered third team kudos in a vote of the conference's coaches. Additionally, Head Coach Graham Brown was named the ECC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year

The eight Spartans have helped their team capture the ECC Regular Season Championship and the number one seed in postseason tournament. STAC finished the regular season with a 9-3-3 record and a 6-1-2 ECC mark. Top-seeded STAC will meet third seeded Molloy College in the ECC Championship Final on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.

Juan Pablo Cedeno Varea (Jr./Midfield/Manta, Ecuador) - Cedeno Varea, the versatile midfielder, posted three goals and six points for the Spartans in 15 games.

Anthony Bolivar Sanchez (Sr./Forward/Caracas, Venezuela) - The team leader in both goals (9) and points (22) through 16 contests, Bolivar Sanchez is also at the top of the statistical leaderboard for the East Coast Conference. Anthony was selected as the ECC Offensive Player of the Week on October 4.

Benjamin Lidh (Fr./Back/Halmstad Sweden) - Lidh, one of the leaders of the Spartan defense corps, registered two game-winning goals for STAC during the 2021 season. Benjamin was named the ECC Rookie of the Week on November 1.

Jorge Umana - (Jr./Forward/Orangeburg, N.Y.) - Umana, the man with the golden foot, is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and seven assists (21 points) in 16 games played. Jorge ECC Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 12.

Cole Allen - (Fr./Midfield/Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) - Allen, recorded four goals and an assist in 16 games for St. Thomas Aquinas. The speedy midfielder used the sidelines to his advantage, both carrying the ball up field and finding teammates with long passes and through balls. Allen took him ECC Rookie of the Week accolades on September 27.

Asier Vegas - (Sr./Goalkeeper/Bilbao, Spain) - Vegas, the Spartans starting netminder, has held opponents to two goals or less in 10 straight matches, while posting a 9-2-2 record with a 0.90 goals against average and an .803 save percentage in 13 games played. Asier has also recorded five shutouts on the year and was name the ECC Defensive Player of the Week on November 1.

Jan Forsterling Beltran (Jr./Back/Valencia, Spain) - Another key member of the STAC defense, Forsterling Beltran has provided stead play and leadership on the back end for the maroon and gold, which has been crucial down the stretch and into the postseason.

Ryan Collins (Jr./Back/Sheffield England) - Collins posted a goal in 15 contests for the Spartans, but more important is his defensive leadership, as Ryan is one of the anchors of the back line and consistenly matches up with the opposition's top offensive players.

Tristan Greenidge (Fr./Midfield/Hamilton, Ontario Canada) - Greenidge, in his first year in Sparkill, has tallied one goal to date for St. Thomas Aquinas, but has provided depth at the midfield position. His outstanding play during the regular season has give Coach Graham Brown an additional option on the field in the playoffs.

Graham Brown - The team's sideline general for the past 21 seasons, earns his first Coach of the Year award after guiding the Spartans to the program's first Regular Season Championship and their best record since 2018.
