The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team dropped its regular season finale, a 4-0 decision in an East Coast Conference contest at Daemen College. The Spartans, ranked #7 in this week's NCAA East Regional Poll, are now 10-5-1 overall with a 6-3 ECC mark, with Daemen finishing the season at 5-12, 3-6. STAC now takes the #4 seed into the ECC Tournament semi-finals, traveling to face top seeded Mercy on Wednesday, October 31.
Despite holding a 9-5 advantage in shots through 45 minutes, it was the Wildcats who accounted for the only goal, with Erik Matthews converting at 14:37. A three-goal outburst over the span of 15 minutes gave the hosts breathing room in the second half. Craig Buchanan provided an insurance goal at 57:28, Matthews netted his second of the game at 67:34, and Zackery Elliot closed out the scoring at 71:52.
STAC prevailed in the shots total by a 16-10 final margin but were kept off the board by Wildcats goalkeeper Eithan Hahn, who was credited with six saves. Jack Nicholson made three saves in absorbing the loss for St. Thomas Aquinas.
Wednesday's other semi-final will see #3 seed Queens travel to face #2 LIU Post, with the winners playing for the conference crown.
