The St. Thomas Aquinas College Club Ice Hockey team dropped a 10-2 road decision to Fordham University on Friday evening at Ice Hutch Ice Rink.
In the first period, the MCHC standings leading Rams, tallied five times including goals by John Murray, Zach Brenner, Kyle Ferguson, Cole Taylor and Nick Gadowski, as the league's highest scoring team took a commanding 5-0 lead into the locker room at the end of one.
However, the Spartans regrouped and tried to chip away at the deficit, as Douglas Harrison put St. Thomas Aquinas on the board seven minutes into the middle stanza, making it 5-1. Unfortunately, that was all of the scoring that STAC could muster, and Fordham struck again two more times on goals by Zach Morfogen and Joe Rocco, extending the Rams lead to 7-1 after two periods of play.
The third period saw Fordham score just three minutes into the final frame, as Reed Bihary put one by STAC goalie Carl Lorenz for an 8-1 advantage. St. Thomas Aquinas was able to get onto the scoresheet again when Alex Ordonez tallied at 13:23, making it a 6-goal spread. That was all of the scoring on the evening for the Spartans, but not for the Rams as Zach Brenner scored his second of the game, followed by the final goal of the game by Anthony DiPerry, closing this one out and giving Fordham University a 10-2 victory.
Spartan Goalie Carl Lorenz (L, 3-8-1) stopped 33 of 43 shots faced.
Shots on goal for the game were 20 for St. Thomas Aquinas and 43 for Fordham.
The Spartans conclude the Fall Semester portion of their schedule with one final road game at Hofstra University (Weather Permitting) on Saturday evening, scheduled puck drop is set for 7pm.
