94-85 STAC Men's Basketball Victory Over Queens Caps Memorable Senior Day

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team wrapped the home portion of its 2025-26 regular season schedule on Sunday, with a 94-85 Senior Day triumph over Queens College at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.

STAC improves to 16-11 overall and 12-3 in ECC play, while Queens falls to 8-17 and 4-10.

Prior to the Spartans' home finale, the maroon and gold honored its graduating class, as Josh Altabet, Ibrahim Conteh, Jordan Green, Derrick James, Prosper Mbuyi and Michael Parrotta's collegiate careers were celebrated with on-court ceremonies, which included the athletes' families, teammates, coaches and college administrators.

When the teams got underway on the hardwood, Starrell Hearns recorded a game-high 29 points for the Spartans, while teammates Jordan Green (21 points), Anthony Daley (12 points) and Derrick James (10 points) also factored in STAC's totals with each scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, Johnny Jones led the visiting Knights in scoring with a game-high 29 points.

STAC shot 52.0 percent (39-75) from the field, while Queens shot 45.7 percent (32-70) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Nine Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest. 
  • Derrick James led the maroon and gold with 12 assists on the day, and surpassed the 500 career assists mark as a member of the Spartans.
  • Starrell Hearns hit 11 of his 22 field goal attempts and 6-of-8 three pointers. Meanwhile, Jordan Green went 10-of-13 from the floor.
  • Queens out-rebounded STAC by a 43-37 margin, with Hearns and Green also grabbing a game-high ten boards apiece for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up 11 steals, with the Knights turning the ball over on 19 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in five team statistical categories over Queens: Points off Turnovers (22-7), Second Chance Points (11-7), Points in the Paint (56-50), Fastbreak Points (27-21) and Bench Points (24-8).
  • The game featured five ties and six lead changes.
  • STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under a minute to play in the contest, when the Spartans led by 13 points, 92-79, on a Jamal Hicks, Jr. dunk.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas led Queens 44-43 going into the halftime locker room, and shot 50.0 percent (19-38) from the field.
  • Jordan Green led all Spartans' scorers with 13 first half points, while shooting 75.0 percent (8-for-16) from the floor.
  • STAC's best shooting half came in the second stanza, with the maroon and gold hitting 20 of its 37 total shots for a 54.1 field goal percentage, 7-of-13 from distance for a 53.8 percent three-point percentage and 3-of-4 from the foul line for a 75.0 percent free throw percentage.

QUEENS NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Seven Knights logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Johnny Jones led Queens' offense with 29 points, while teammates Tahj-Malik Campbell (26 points) and Henri Mennander (15 points) also scored in double digits.
  • Campbell and David Teele led Queens with three assists each on the afternoon.
  • Jones went 10-for-31 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, with Campbell hitting 11-of-21 field goal attempts.
  • Tahj-Malik Campbell and Henri Mennander also grabbed a game-high 10 boards apiece for the Knights.
  • Queens picked up nine steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
  • Queens had its largest lead of the game (five points) with just under 16 minutes to play in the first half, 14-9, on a Tahj-Malik Campbell free throw.
  • Johnny Jones led all scorers at the half with 18 points for the Knights, while shooting 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from the field.
