Green Drops 22 Points, As STAC Kicks Off New Campaign with 84-78 Win Over Georgian Court

Staten Island, N.Y. - Jordan Green's 22-point performance on Friday evening helped propel the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team to an 84-78 season-opening victory over Georgian Court University at the Tournament of Heroes, hosted by the College of Staten Island.

STAC moves to 1-0 on the season, while Georgian Court falls to 0-1.

The aforementioned Jordan Green recorded a team-high 22 points for the maroon and gold, while teammates Joshua Michigan (14 points) and Ky Panda-Massey (13 points) also factored in the Spartans' totals by scoring in double digits. Meanwhile, Cam Edmonds tallied a game-high 29 points for the Lions.

STAC shot 43.5 percent from the field (30-69), while GCU shot 48.4 percent (30-62) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Seven Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Starrell Hearns led the maroon and gold with five assists on the day.
  • Jordan Green hit 9 of his 11 field goal attempts and 4-of-5 free throws. Meanwhile, Joshua Michigan went 7-for-11 from the floor.
  • STAC out-rebounded Georgian Court by a 40-31 count, with Starrell Hearns and William Landram II each grabbing a game-high seven boards apiece for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas swiped ten steals, with the Lions turning the ball over on 16 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over Georgian Court: Points in the Paint (27-11), Second Chance Points (11-6), Points in the Paint (46-44) and Bench Points (26-19).
  • The game featured three ties and two lead changes.
  • STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under 17 minutes to play in the first half of Friday's contest, when Spartans led by 10 points, 10-0, on a Joshua Michigan layup.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas trailed Georgian Court 42-35 going into the halftime locker room and shot just 33.3 percent (12-36) from the field.
  • Jordan Green led the Spartans with nine first half points. Green shot 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from the floor and 75.0 percent (3-for-4) from the foul line.
  • STAC's best shooting half came in the second stanza, as the Spartans shot 54.5 percent (18-33) from the field and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the free-throw line.

GEORGIAN COURT NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Eight Lions logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Cam Edmonds led Georgian Court with 29 points, while Donavin Crawford (16 points) and Jaycen Santucci (10 points) also scored in double figures.
  • Elijon Nix led Georgian Court with five assists on the afternoon.
  • Edmonds went 8-for-15 from the floor and 12-of-16 from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Crawford went 6-for-13 from the field and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc.
  • Santucci also grabbed a game-high seven boards for the Lions.
  • Georgian Court picked up five steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 14 separate occasions.
  • The Lions earned just one advantage team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Fastbreak Points (20-8).
  • Cam Edmonds led all scorers with 13 first half points for the Lions, while shooting 42.9 percent (3-of-7) from the field and 70.0 percent (7-for-10) from the foul line.
