Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College and Dominican University Men's Basketball teams renewed their rivalry on the hardwood Wednesday evening, as the teams met in the 2026 Doc Schelin Classic at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.
The classic, named in honor and memory of former St. Thomas Aquinas College Dean of Student Affairs and professor of history and political science Dr. Robert C. Schelin, brought the college community, along with Doc's family, friends, colleagues and those alumni whom he mentored and guided through the years together to celebrate his life and legacy, and to enjoy the sport which he loved so much, basketball.
STAC used a 52-point first half to charge past Dominican, 111-90, for their fourth straight victory.
St. Thomas Aquinas moves to 11-10 overall, while Dominican falls to 8-11.
Jordan Green led the way for the maroon and gold with a team-high 26 points, while teammates Starrell Hearns (16 points), Joshua Michigan (15 points), Jamal Hicks, Jr. (13 points), Brennan Chatman (12 points) and Derrick James (12 points) posted double figures in scoring as well. Koi D. Kirk, Jr. led all Chargers' scorers by tallying a game-high 28 points of his own.
STAC shot 55.8 percent (43-77) from the field, while Dominican shot 49.3 percent (34-69) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ten Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Derrick James led the maroon and gold with 11 assists on the night.
- Jordan Green hit 13 of his 15 field goal attempts. Meanwhile, Starrell Hearns went 4-for-12 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
- STAC out-rebounded Dominican by a 45-30 count, with Jordan Green, Starrell Hearns, Michael Parrotta and Igor Gonzalez all grabbing a team-high eight boards apiece for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas swiped 11 steals, with the Chargers turning the ball over on 14 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in four key team statistical categories over Dominican: Points off Turnovers (20-13), Second Chance Points (16-13), Points in the Paint (62-54) and Bench Points (30-25).
- The game featured four ties and two lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just over 30 seconds to play in Wednesday's contest, when the Spartans led by 23 points, 111-88, on an Anthony Daly three-point jump shot.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led Dominican, 52-31 going into the halftime locker room and shot 57.9 percent (22-38) from the field.
- Jordan Green led all Spartans' scorers with 14 first half points while shooting 100.0 percent from the floor (7-of-7).
DOMINICAN NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Chargers logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Koi D. Kirk, Jr. led Dominican with 28 points, while Elijah Peters (23 points) and Chance Morrish (11 points) also scored in double figures.
- Isaiah Honis led Dominican with seven assists on the evening.
- Kirk, Jr. went 9-for-16 from the floor and 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, Peters went 9-for-10 from the field, 2-of-2 from three and 3-for-5 from the foul line.
- Koi D. Kirk, Jr. also grabbed a game-high nine boards for the Chargers.
- Dominican picked up six steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
- The Chargers earned one advantage in the key team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Fastbreak Points (19-18).
- Koi D. Kirk, Jr. led all scorers with 17 first half points for the Chargers, while shooting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the field and 100.0 percent (7-of-7) from the free-throw line.
- Dominican's best shooting half came in the second stanza, as the Chargers shot 64.1 percent (25-39) from the floor.
