Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team got back on track Wednesday evening with an 83-75 road victory against Molloy University at Bob Houlihan Gymnasium on Long Island.
STAC improves to 15-11 overall and 11-3 in ECC play, while Molloy falls to 7-16 and 7-6.
Jordan Green led the way for the Spartans with a game-high 21 points, with teammates Starrell Hearns (14 points) and Derrick James (11 points) also scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, Dylan Kopp and Jared Weakly paced the host Lions with a team-high 16 points apiece.
STAC shot 40.8 percent (31-76) from the field, while Molloy shot 43.7 percent (31-71) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nine Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Derrick James led the maroon and gold with seven assists on the night.
- Jordan Green hit 8 of his 10 field goal attempts. He also went 5-of-8 from the foul line. Meanwhile, Starrel Hearns went 4-for-12 from the floor and 4-of-4 from free-throw line.
- STAC out-rebounded Molloy by a 52-36 count, with Joshua Michigan grabbing a game-high 14 boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas swiped eight steals, with the Lions turning the ball over on 14 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in three team statistical categories over Molloy: Points off Turnovers (25-12), Second Chance Points (17-8) and Bench Points (21-15).
- The game featured one tie and three lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just over eight minutes to play in the second half of Wednesday's contest, when the Spartans led by 17 points, 63-46, on a Jordan Green layup.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led Molloy, 34-24 going into the halftime locker room, with the maroon and gold shooting 34.2 percent (13-38) from the field and 66.7 percent (4-6) from the charity stripe.
- Jordan Green led all scorers with nine first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the floor and 50.0 percent (1-of-2) from the foul line.
- STAC's best shooting half came in the second stanza, as the Spartans shot 47.4 percent (18-38) from the field.
MOLLOY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seven Lions logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Dylan Kopp and Jared Weakly led Molloy with 16 points apiece, while Chase Timberlake (13 points) also scored in double figures.
- Weakly also led Molloy with nine assists on the evening.
- Kopp went 6-for-16 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Weakly went 7-for-9 from the field, and 1-for-1 from the charity stripe.
- Jared Weakly also grabbed a team-high eight boards apiece for the Lions.
- Molloy picked up ten steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
- Molloy's largest lead of the game came with just under sixteen minutes to play in the first half, when the Molloy led by five points, 8-3, on a Chase Timberlake layup.
- Chase Timberlake and Sebastian Bosquez led all Lions' scorers with six first half points apiece.
- Molloy's best shooting half also came in the second stanza, as the Lions shot 54.1 percent (20-37) from the field and 72.7 percent (8-11) from the free-throw line.
