The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team has risen to #20 in the lastest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll released on Tuesday afternoon.
Following STAC's sweep of contests last week over the University of the District of Columbia and the College of Staten Island to end the 2021-22 Regular Season, the Spartans earned their fifth East Coast Conference Regular Season crown since 2015 (2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022) and now holds an impressive 24-4 overall record and a 17-1 mark in the conference, as the team prepares for the upcoming ECC Tournament.
The Spartans are currently being led by Demetre Roberts (Senior/Guard/Mount Vernon, N.Y.) - averaging 16.1 points & 4.2 assists per game, Osbel Caraballo (Senior/Forward/Bolivar, Venezuela) - averaging 15.3 points & 5.9 rebounds per game, Jamal Barnes (Sophomore/Guard/Temple Hills, Md.) - averaging 11.7 points & 3.3 rebounds per game and Grant Singleton (Senior/Guard/Sumter, S.C.) - averaging 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
The team's offense currently averages 87.0 points scored per game, while their defense surrenders an average of only 72.3 points per game.
STAC has earned a bye into the semifinal round of the ECC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held at Aquinas Hall Gym, next Saturday, March 5. The top-seeded Spartans will tip-off at noon against the winner of #4 Queens College vs. #5 Roberts Wesleyan College. The two will battle on Wednesday evening, March 2 in the tourney's first round games.
