St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball player Demetre Roberts was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division II Player of the Week on Tuesday, following the Spartans 4-0 week on the hardwood, with victories over Molloy College (104-92 & 82-78) and Queens College (71-59 & 75-68) last week.
Demetre Roberts averaged 23.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game over four games last week. Roberts posted a career-high 36 points, with three rebounds and five assists against the Lions, followed by 24 points, four rebounds, and six assists at the Molloy, then 21 points, three rebounds, and six assists versus the Knights, and finally 12 points, five rebounds and 10 assists at the Queens. The senior guard from Mount Vernon, N.Y. shot 52.5 percent (32-for-61) from the floor, 40.9 percent (9-for-22) from three, and 80.0 percent (20-for-25) from the foul line. He also added 15 rebounds, 27 assists, and six steals.
St. Thomas Aquinas heads to Western New York for an ECC showdown with Daemen College on Friday, February 18. Opening tip is set for 7:30pm at Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst.
