Erie, Pa. - St. Thomas Aquinas College senior Nolan Skaggs punched his ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday, placing third among all participants at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament at the Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie, Pa.
Skaggs bounced from second to fifth and finally third in the tournament and finished with an even par (216) over 54 holes. He shot 70 on day one, 76 on day two, and 70 on day three.
The top three teams and the top two individuals on non-advancing teams qualified for the NCAA Championship. Johnny Solari (+5/221) of Adelphi University joins Skaggs in the finals, along with members of the Davis and Elkins, Gannon and Charleston (West Virginia) golf teams.
STAC finished fourth in the three-day super regional, with a team score of 908 (+44). Tanner Little 228/+12 (T24), Diego Ocasio 231/+15 (T37), Djaia Darrason 237/+21 (T59) and Albin Faelt 248/+32 (T81) rounded out the Spartans' scoring.
The Division II Men's Golf National Championship will take place from May 19-23 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
