On Wednesday, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), in conjunction with Golf Pride Grips, released their annual regional and national coach of the year awards. St. Thomas Aquinas College Head Golf Coach Stephen Ferrara was named the Division II East Region Coach of the Year in recognition of his team's outstanding 2024-2025 season.
Ferrara guided his Spartan squad to nine top-five finishes during regular season play, including victories in the Post University Eagles Invitational, St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Shootout and Columbia University Roar-EE Invitational.
In the postseason, St. Thomas Aquinas posted a fourth place finish in the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Championship, while golfer Nolan Skaggs qualified for the NCAA Division II Golf Championship with his third place individual finish.
The Spartans have made the trip to nationals as a team on ten seperate occasions in 2009, 2010, 2011*, 2012, 2014, 2016*, 2017, 2021, 2022* & 2024 (*Atlantic/East Super Regional Champions), while sending an individual player on three occasions in 2015 - Nicklaus Koerner, 2023 - Dante Groppuso & 2025 - Nolan Skaggs.
STAC's success on the links in 2024-25 also translated into several Spartans being recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America with Division II Ping All-Region selections in late May, as golfers Djaia Darrason, Tanner Little, Diego Ocasio and Nolan Skaggs were named to the East Region Team.
