The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team finished in 3rd place after the opening round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional played at The Resort at Glade Springs, Daniels, West Virginia. Kevin Gately shot a team low 71 which ties him for 3rd place. The Spartans are just three strokes off the leaders, Mercyhurst University.
Gately is one of just four players who shot under par with his 1-under 71. Michael Frizzalone carded a 75 while Brendan Hunter came in as the Spartans third low scorer at 77. Hamish Houston posted a 78 and Michael Miranda shot 81.
Mercyhurst shot 298 with their leader, Chris Kupniewski carding an opening round 69, tying him for first place with Domincian College, Hunter Wescott. The Chargers are one stroke ahead of the Spartans after posting a team score of 300.
