Field Hockey Drops 4-2 Decision at Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Field Hockey team made the short drive across the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge for a Tuesday afternoon Northeast-10 Conference matchup with Mercy University in Westchester County. Despite tallying a pair of goals, the visiting Spartans suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Mavericks.

STAC falls to 3-13 overall and 2-9 in NE10 action, while Mercy moves to 5-11 and 4-7.

Jessica Evans tallied a hat trick on the day, with teammate Charlotte Sabert netting a goal of her own for the host Mavericks. In the cage, Kaylise McClure (W, 4-7) got the start for Mercy and allowed two goals on nine total shots.

Meanwhile, STAC received goals from Clemence Papleux and Lilah Magenheimer, as goalie Ailsa Ogilvie (L, 3-12) turned aside 11 of 15 shots fired her way.

Papleux's first quarter tally, her tenth of the season, came off of a failed clear by the Mercy defence and was promptly fired to the upper left corner of the cage by the freshman forward. For Magenheimer, the junior forward/goalkeeper picked up the first goal of her collegiate career on a net front deflection of a shot by Papleux via a penalty corner insert.
