STAC Baseball Sits Seventh in Latest NCBWA East Region Poll

On the heels of a 2-1 week on the diamond, including a doubleheader sweep of East Coast Conference opponent College of Staten Island this past weekend, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team holds the seventh spot in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region poll.

Leading the way for STAC is Nick Oelcher (RJr.|Holbrook, N.Y.), who has swung a hot bat to date, hitting .432 (32-for-74) with six doubles, three homers, 22 RBI and 21 runs scored over his first 22 games. He has also swiped ten bases in that span.

Spartans slugger CJ Cumbo (Gr./East Meadow, N.Y.) has also gotten off to a strong start, hitting .348 (23-for-66) with four doubles, five home runs, 26 RBI and 24 runs scored in 22 games. CJ has also drawn 17 walks and stolen eight bases.

On the mound, STAC pitchers have held opposing hitters at bay (.301 Batting Average), and as a staff have posted 16 wins in 22 games played with a 6.24 ERA. In 176.0 innings pitched, maroon and gold hurlers have surrendered 206 hits, 142 runs (122 earned) and have walked 92 while fanning 138.

STAC (16-6, 7-3 ECC) closes out the season series with Staten Island on Tuesday, March 31 at Clover Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and the Spartans will be designated as the "road team" for this contest.
