STAC Baseball Ends Losing Skid with 7-2 Victory Over Crosstown Rivals Dominican

Pomona, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team posted seven runs over the first four innings of Friday's non-conference contest with crosstown rivals Dominican University, in a 7-2 victory at Clover Stadium.

STAC ends its five-game winless streak and moves to 8-23 on the year, while Dominican loses for the first time in fourteen games and slips to 26-12.

The Spartans got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the second inning, courtesy of an RBI base knock up the middle by Charlie Cordisco and a two-run single to right field by Ryan Hillery.

Dominican answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, as a bases loaded walk followed by a bases loaded hit by pitch made it 3-2.

However, a four-run fourth inning for St. Thomas Aquinas gave the visitors some insurance runs. David Potenza's RBI single to right field, a stolen base by Potenza which allowed Charlie Cordisco to trot home on the throw and an Anthony Dimarco two-run homer to right expanded the lead to 7-2. Dimarco wielded the hot twig on the day, with three hits in five at-bats

Andrew Schoelles got the start for the Spartans and allowed two runs on four hits with a walk over four innings to earn a no-decision. Pitchers Aidan Cardenas (W, 2-0) and John Dezago also saw time on the mound for the maroon and gold, with Cardenas earning his second victory of the campaign on the strength of four one-hit, shutout innings of work, while walking two and fanning one Chargers hitter. Dezago threw a perfect ninth inning to close out the game.

STAC will next host Dominican on Sunday, April 13, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Clover Stadium.
