St. Thomas Aquinas College pitcher Angelo Baez has signed a contract with the New Jersey Jackals of the Frontier League on Tuesday afternoon, following the conclusion of his collegiate career with the Spartans at the NCAA Division II East Regional Baseball Tournament.
Baez put together a solid 2021 season for STAC, posting a 5-1 record with a 3.71 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts). In 51 innings pitched, he surrendered 54 hits and 34 runs (21 earned), while walking 14 and K'ing 53 opposing batters.
Over his terrific five-year career (2017-2021) in maroon and gold, Baez amassed a 13-6 mark with a 3.14 earned run average in 42 appearances (12 starts). The Bronx, N.Y. native also played second base and shortstop for the Spartans for parts of his first three seasons, and posted a .283 average with 11 doubles, 30 RBI and 35 runs scored in 223 at-bats over 110 games.
Baez played an integral role in the success of the St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team during his time in Sparkill, as he was a member of the 2017, '18 and '21 ECC Regular Season Champion teams and won an ECC Tournament title in 2018. He was also a participant in three NCAA Division II East Region Tournaments (2017, '18 and '21) and helped capture the 2017 East Region crown and a trip to the NCAA Division II finals, where the team finished third overall in the country.
For fans wishing to see former Spartan Angelo Baez in action, the New Jersey Jackals play their home games out of Yoggi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J. and will travel to face local Frontier League opponents; the Sussex County Miners (Skylands Stadium - Augusta, N.J.), Tri-City Valley Cats (Joseph L. Bruno Stadium - Troy, N.Y.) and New York Boulders (Palisades Credit Union Park - Pomona, N.Y.).
