Giovanni Dingcong and Joseph Pena were named the Spartan Athletes of the Month for May.
Joseph Pena, Baseball:
Pena posted a .262 batting average, going 11-for-42 at the plate, with 5 RBIs and 7 runs scored during the month of May. Joey played in all 12 of the Spartans' games, also contributing three doubles and a triple, while opposing pitchers walked him eleven times. He was also went a perfect 6-for-6 in base stealing for St. Thomas Aquinas.
The senior shortstop from Brooklyn, N.Y. was also a mainstay defensively for the Spartans, as Pena posted a .953 fielding percentage, while only committing 2 errors during his time in the middle infield.
In recogition of his stellar play during the 2018 season, Joey was named an ECC First Team All-Conference selection, along with All-Region First Team honors for ABCA/Rawlings and Second Team for NCBWA.
