Gabriela Sloezen and Chaz Watler were named the Spartan Athletes of the Month for January.
Gabriela Sloezen, Women's Indoor Track & Field:
Sloezen placed seventh in the 800 meter run (2:20.08) and helped lead the 4x400 meter relay (4:13.15) at the Villanova Open on January 8th. The senior sprinter from Westwood, NJ then ran a third place time of 58.16 in the 400 meter dash, assisted in a third place finish time of 4:11.71 in the 4x400 meter relay and a seventh place time of 1:48.54 in the 4x200 meter relay at the January 15th Spartan Regional Invite hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Gabriela returned to the track on January 22nd at the NYC Gotham Cup, where she participated in the 400 meter dash (58.23) and the 4x400 meter relay (4:08.09). Finally, to end the first month of 2016, Sloezen competed at the Boston University Terrier Classic on January 29th, where the Spartan sprinter took part in the 400 meter dash (58.12), the 4x400 meter relay (4:03.43) and the 4,000 meter distance medley relay (12:24.30).
