This past Friday, St. Thomas Aquinas College hosted the 4th Annual Spartan Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY. The Spartan Invitational saw over 1,500 athletes take part in events with Division I, II, III schools all competing.
Rickssen Opont hit a new personal record at the Spartan Invite as well as the 21st best throw in the country when he threw 16.70m (54'9,5). In his last year of running in the Spartan Invitational, St. Jacob Diodonet won the 400 meters in a time of 48.19. James Dowd took 8th place overall in the 1000 meters in a time of 2:42.23. The 4x200 team of St. Jacob Diodonet, Malyk Michel, Dante Brown, and Jarret Millien ran 1:29.17 which is the 2nd fastest time in the country in that event. The 4x800 team of Kevin Bouyea, Nick Martello, James Dowd and Frankie Schiavone took 4th place in a time of 8:15.43.
Christina Maretzo ran 2:23.05 in the 800 this past weekend in which she came in 7th place overall in the meet. Rebecca MacLeod took 3rd place in the 1000m with a time of 3:10.54. Right behind MacLeod in the 1000 was Abigail Kimbrell who ran 3:14.68 and taking a 7th place finish. The women's 4x400 team of Ruby Pekin-Schlicht, Christina Maretzo, Molly Conner and Amber Lubaszka took 3rd place in the 4x400 with a time of 4:11.07. The women's 4x800 team of Rachel Spagnola, Christina Maretzo, Shannon Thompson and Rebecca Macleod took 2nd place in a time of 10:09.11
