This past Friday and Saturday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field team competed at the Boston University Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts.
On the women's side, the squad had a great weekend lead by Rebecca MacLeod, where she ran a new personal best in the Mile with a conference leading time of 5:13.27. Rebecca was also a part of 3 different relays where she ran the 4x400, DMR and 4x800. Christina Maretzo also a great day on the track, as she ran 5:13.85, which is the second best mark in the conference and a new personal best. Christina was also a part of the 4x800 and the DMR team with MacLeod that finished 5th and 9th overall. Freshman Duenya Alan jumped a new college best and the 3rd ranked jump in the ECC with a leap of 10.93m (35"10.5). Duenya then hit a new personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.64.
The men's team, led by St Jacob Diodonet in his senior campaign, broke another school record this past weekend in the 500 meter dash in a time of 1:05.06 to take 5th place overall (1st among Division II athletes). Saint is currently ranked number nine in the country in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.76. Rickssen Opont competed in a stacked field in the shot put cage, where he took 5th overall (1st among Division II Athletes). Rickssen is currently ranked first in both the East Region and ECC in the Shot Put.
The Spartans will now get a much deserved week off from competition, before returning to action on February 8 at the Fast Track Invitational. The day's events will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
