Spartans Open at the BU Season Opener

The Spartans kicked off the 2018-19 Indoor Track & Field Season at the BU Season opener and had some great opening marks to start off the season.  Senior Saint Jacob Diodonet opened up against some great Division I competition and hit provisional NCAA marks in the 400 with a time of 48.55 and in the 200 with a time of 21.72.  Dante Brown hit a new personal best and Provosional NCAA mark in the 200 with a time of 21.72,  just missing Diodonet by .006.  Brown also finished 2nd in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.87m (22'6.5).  Senior Ricksen Opont took a 6th place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 15.63 (51'3.5).  Senior Frankie Schiavone ran a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 1:57.12 taking a 4th place finish.  Not far behind Schiavone was freshman Kevin Bouyea with an indoor personal best of 1:59.93.  Other good times came in from Nick Martello with a time of 9:05.31 followed by Aiden Russell in a time of 9:09.58.

 
On the Lady Spartan Side, sophomore Christina Maretzo opened up the season in the 800 with a time of 2:25.61 taking a 5th place finish.  Shannon Thompson finished right behind her in 7th place in a time of 2:27.19.  Rachel Spagnola ran 1:00.82, which is her second best time as a Collegiate runner.  Freshman Dunya Alan opened up her collegiate career with triple jump marks of 10.32m (33'10.5) and 4.99 in the Long Jump (16'4.5).
 
The Indoor Track & Field team will be competing in the Elm City Classic  on Friday and Saturday of this week at Southern Connecticut State.
