This past Friday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's and Women's Track & Field team competed at the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, and the Spartans did not disappoint.
Freshman, Dante Brown broke the school record in the Long Jump by jumping 7.03m (23'0.75) which is also was the first place jump of the meet. Brown also took fourth overall in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.06 and second place as the 200 leg in the Sprint Medley Relay. Rickssen Opont continued his domination in the cage, as he took a first place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 15.99m (52'5.5). Kesigh Deloatch also had a great day in the field events, where he took a second place finish in the Triple Jump with a leap of 13.73m (45'0.5) and a seventh place finish in the High Jump when he jumped 1.85m (6'0.75). Frankie Schiavone Pole Vaulted his way to a mark of 3.45m (11'3.75).
On the women's side of the ledger, school records continued to fall as Katie Mollahan also broke a record in the Shot Put with a throw of 12.40m (40'8.25). Meanwhile, Camille Cameron broke the record in the 300 Meter Dash with a time of 40.71 which was good enough for fourth place overall in the event.
The Sprint Medley teams for both the men and women both broke college records, as the team of St. Jacob Diodonet, Malyk Michel, Dante Brown, and Frankie Schiavone ran 3:31.09 and the team of Rachel Spagnola, Camille Cameron, Kalesha Darisme, and Christina Maretzo ran a time of 4:24.51 to take a fourth place finish.
The Spartans will break for final exams and the winter holidays, before next competing on Friday, January 5th at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY when Wagner College hosts their annual invitational.
